Students studying outside of NuPoe and Umpiem camps returned to check and change their Thai Burma Consortium (TBC) ration books during the weeks of Oct 6th and Oct 12th.

According to Pyae Pyae, a student at EIP, “If we do not have a ration book, we will be unable to receive a UN verification card which allows us access to resources in camp.”

Nu Poe camp’s process began on the week of 6th Oct, 2015 and Umpiem camp’s began on 12th Oct, 2015. Each process lasted around four days.

Because of a lack of internet access at EIP, students were not informed on the TBC timeframe. Two weeks of classes were negatively affected.

Those who do not have UN cards must take photos to ensure they will receive rations within camp. Even though those who have a UN card did not return, TBC removed their names from the list of registered refugees.

Camp wide rations were cut from 12 kilograms to 8 kilograms. Additionally, families who have an annual income were given half of a monthly ration.
